Dear You,
I know you're tired.
Not the kind of tired a weekend can fix.
Not the kind that disappears after a good night's sleep.
The kind that settles deeper.
The kind that lives beneath the surface.
The kind that comes from carrying more than anyone can see.
I've been with you for a while now.
You've felt me in the heaviness behind your eyes.
In the mornings when getting out of bed felt harder than it should.
In the conversations that required more energy than you had to give.
In the moments when the world kept moving and you wondered why keeping up felt so difficult.
You have asked yourself what is wrong.
Nothing is wrong.
You've simply been carrying a great deal.
You have been carrying experiences that changed you.
Questions that never received answers.
Losses that were never fully acknowledged.
Disappointment.
Uncertainty.
Grief.
Responsibilities that stretched you beyond your limits.
And through it all, you've continued moving forward.
Even when every part of you longed to pause.
I know there are moments when you judge me.
When you call yourself lazy.
Unmotivated.
Weak.
Falling behind.
But that has never been why I am here.
I am not a character flaw.
I am not a failure.
I am a messenger.
I arrive when something within you needs attention.
When you've been giving more than you've been receiving.
When you've been pushing past your own limits.
When you've been meeting everyone else's needs while neglecting your own.
When you've been surviving for so long that you've forgotten what it feels like to truly rest.
I know you've tried to outrun me.
You've pushed harder.
Worked longer.
Stayed busy.
Told yourself that if you could just get through one more day, one more task, one more challenge, then maybe I would finally disappear.
But I was never asking you to move faster.
I was asking you to slow down long enough to hear yourself.
To notice what your body has been trying to tell you.
To recognize what your heart has been carrying.
To acknowledge the weight you've been holding alone.
You do not need to earn rest.
You do not need permission to pause.
You do not need to prove your worth through endless productivity.
You are allowed to breathe.
You are allowed to take up space.
You are allowed to set something down.
I know you're worried that if you stop, everything will fall apart.
But what if stopping is what allows you to come back together?
What if rest isn't giving up?
What if it's reconnecting?
What if it is the very thing that makes what's next possible?
My hope for you is not that you stop feeling me entirely. It is that you begin listening.
That when I arrive, you greet me with curiosity instead of criticism.
That you ask yourself:
What have I been carrying?
What do I need?
What am I ready to release?
Because beneath me, there is something waiting.
There is clarity.
There is self-compassion.
There is wisdom.
There is a version of you that no longer believes she must constantly prove her strength.
And there is a life that feels less like surviving and more like living.
So the next time someone asks why you've become quiet, why you've stepped back, why you're choosing rest, I hope you remember this:
You are not withdrawing from life.
You are returning to yourself.
And sometimes, that is the most courageous thing you can do.
With care,
